See how you feel...

Maddox Arts. 28 January 2009 – 07 March 2009

How would you feel if you were treated like an outcast, the detritus that society throws away? Berlin-based artist Dodi Reifenberg launches his exhibition to champion the humble plastic bag, bringing this ‘black sheep’ not only back into the fold, but giving it a starring role in contemporary art. Cutting, tearing and tying bags together, he shows just how flexible his medium is, creating work that ranges from large scale installations to ‘mosaics’ and collages.

The use of plastic bags is totally original and many of the more accessible pieces are exceptionally attractive and interesting. However, some of the more exotic and obscure pieces, possibly the artist's favourites (?) border on the pretentious and may only have limited appeal, whereas if he were to stick to the brillient and quite mesmeric portaits, especially Obama, Virinia and H.G. Wells - well, then he'd have a winner!
