Mini Morning

Mini Morning.

Dodi Reifenberg.

2008. Plastic bags, staples, pine stretcher. 181 x 132 x 42 cm. £8,000.00.

A work like Mini Morning (2008) plays deliberately with many of the modern tropes of picture making. The torn plastic bikini-ed Wesselman-like figure on a beach or bed, and the Polke-like transparency of the seen stretcher beneath, have been transported into the language of cheap discarded and brightly coloured plastic bags.

I think that...

this reminds me a bit of the Duchamp's Nude descending a staircase with the implied movement of the figure. I like the ambivalence of the ?? rubbish? beach objects. Another reminder of both the recyclable materials used and the junk too often found on beaches.

I love the image of a girl at the beach. Like the idea of using recycling materials.

Would be great to hang this in my home but I dread to think what my cat would do to it!
